Two Sticks And Some String !

This is me, an opinionated, politically progressive Canadian Lace Knitter who's lived and worked in western Canada, and on the east coast of the USA; a multi-skilled person who's been recently re-elected to public office, has a Class One driver's license, a human services professional in direct service, middle and senior management positions, and a MOM!

Fair Winnings !!

Here are the pictures !!

Anyone who knows me also knows that the last thing I want to do is be humble about my knitting. Most of it is on my blog and I'm quite proud of it (as we all should be of our beautiful lace knitting!).
Soooooo .... on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, I took ten (TEN) pieces of my lace knitting to our local fair. Now, the fair isn't actually on until this week, but all the arts/crafts/hobbies had to be by Wednesday, and were judged last Thursday.
I entered the following pieces:
1. Balmoral Thistle Table Centre
2. Silk Wedding Garter
3. Bridal Veil Table Centre
4. Small white doily (Coats and Clark pattern)
5. Oval Runner from Muestros y Motivos
6. Lily of the Valley Tablecloth
7. 102" Lace Edging
8. Shawl (rectangular, in alternating Madeira Cascade)
9. Linen Bookmark
10. Blue Silk Cascading Leaves Shoulder Drape (sort of a shawl)

Soooooo .... Thursday after work I shot down to the pavillion on the fair grounds and found that I had won THREE first place (red) ribbons and SIX second place (blue) ribbons.

AND ... I was talking to the chair of the committee which runs the "Hobby World" during the fair, and mentioned that I'd like to set up my own lace (they have a team of volunteers who set up the displays who are not necessarily knitters or ______, and so don't necessarily know how to show off the pieces as they should be) ... and with the help of Nancy Panting (she's the founder of Blankets for Canada, and a volunteer at the Fair) I got permission to set up my own knitted lace display.

AND (this just keeps on getting better!), a friend of a Knitted Lace List member has moved to Lethbridge and on Monday (Aug. 21), she and I met at the fair grounds. She helped me with my display. I'm very excited about meeting her. She is American, newly moved to Canada and a new knitter, and I'm sure it'll be interesting sharing stories of our lives away from our own countries, in addition to getting to know each other!

AND (gloat gloat) I will also be doing lace knitting demonstrations (no placards, please ) during the fair, taking needles and thread and a few books with me (NOT my Susanna Lewis book, or any of the others that have been going for outrageous amounts of money on eBay lately!). I'll be at the fair so much that they've given me a pin which gives me free admission and parking at any time during the fair.

AND, seeing as how we just got a fabulous new digital camera, I can actually get pictures of my lace at the fair, and get those pics on my blog without having to wait weeks for the film to be printed and then find the time to scan them.

So, with no apologies for my unashamed bragging, I'm going to go back to TINKING (a slightly humbling experience) the doily I'm knitting (again out of the Muestros y Motivos book) the six rounds so I can correct an error I made in every repeat, so that it will be ready for me to use to demonstrate lace knitting this week at the fair!

Alright, I'll settle down (maybe). Back to the tinking!

P.S. Later this week I'll post the rest of the pictures; I just tossed these onto my blog tonight because SOMEONE (ahem) whose name I won't mention (MAX) has been flailing me mercilessly (ohhhh yessssss !!!) to get at least SOME of my pics posted! (Gotta love a guy who nags, eh?) So, babeeee, here you are. Sheesh ;-)
P.P.S. Speaking of guys and love, my sweetie is going to be sitting with me at the Blankets for Canada booth, which I'm staffing tomorrow (Wednesday) and Saturday nights from 5 p.m. till 10 p.m. Not only is he cute, he's smart!
P.P.P.S. The Golden Child (aka My Beautiful, Perfect Son) is going to be cruising the Caribbean for the next six months, with Princess Cruise Lines, living and working on board! I've already asked him to look into family discounts (naturally). I wonder if there's a market for knitted lace on the cruise lines?? hmmm .....
